The cornerstone of the moderately large Roman Catholic church, named in honour of Our Lady of Mount Carmel that presently exists in the community, was laid on July 24, 1887. Its construction was completed in 1888 using bricks from Crediton. The large residence for parish priests, located immediately south of the church, was built in 1909.
