Apr 21, 2000 · U-571 has a lot going for it. Now, it may not be the most historically accurate film ever made, but is certainly damn good entertainment. Incredibly tense and thrilling, there is rarely a moment you are not clinging to the edge of your seat for dear life. The tension built by director Jonathan Mostow certainly pays off too, with a great third cast.
So it's fair to say that expectations for 'U-571' were reasonably high back in 2000. It's equally fair to say that those expectations weren't exceeded, even if the movie was still passably successful by most critical and commercial metrics. 'U-571' now looks like a pointed reminder on the too-much-too-soon dangers…
