    Lloyd Nolan was most famous for his role as the curmudgeonly Doctor Morton Chegley in the Diahann Carroll situation comedy Julia (1968–71). Nolan spent much of his career acting in “B” movies, usually playing police detectives or gangsters in such films as King of Gamblers (1937), Michael Shayne, Private Detective (1940), and Buy Me That Town (1941).
