Pittman Center. This small town outside Gatlinburg covers six square miles and has a population of only 500, but its treasures are plentiful. Its first settler arrived in 1784, but the town remained cut off from the world due to rough topography and poor roads for over 100 years.

Brief History. Before the name of Pittman Center emerged, the area was known as Emerts Cove, so named after its first settler, Fredrick Emert who arrived in 1784. Mr. Ermet was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and is buried in Emerts Cove.
