I got one of those fines years ago. Got on at Queens Quay, tried to tap but the presto machine was out of service. Literally rode for 2 mins to Union, then tried to explain my case to the fare inspector at Union, but had no luck. Ended up having to take the day off, go to court, and ended up getting it reduced from $325 to just 80 in the end.
