Nov 8, 2023 · Billionaire businessman and one of Australia’s most generous philanthropists, Marc Besen, has died aged 99 in Melbourne this week, just one month shy of his 100th birthday.
Dan was one of the inaugural Design Advocates for the Mayor of London and a Trustee of Participatory City Foundation. Dan is the author of the books ‘Dark Matter & Trojan horses: A strategic design playbook’ (Strelka Press, 2012) and ‘Designing missions: Mission-oriented innovation in Sweden (Vinnova, 2022).
Mr Besen is an ardent advocate for the arts with a lifelong dedication to supporting the contemporary Australian arts community. He has participated in arts leadership roles for three decades, since becoming Heide Museum of Modern Art’s youngest ever Director in his early 20s.
Daniel Besen says, “My role at Collingwood Yards has been fulfilled. I am very proud of what we have achieved and the extraordinary community that is emerging. It is the right time for a new Chair to lead the organisation into the next stage of its journey.”.
