Black Mafia Life is the second studio album by American hip hop group Above the Law. This album is what would be considered the blueprint of the G-Funk sound similar to Dr Dre's The Chronic. The album was recorded in 1991 into 1992 but was held back due to legal issues with Epic And Dr. Dre's Departure from Ruthless Records.

But another singular and sadly overlooked achievement during this era was Above the Law’s sophomore album Black Mafia Life, released just a month and a half after Dre’s magnum opus.
Zephos Oct 26 2008. Goddamn. Could any of the NWA posse stay together under any context? Above the Law split with Dre just before he exploded into lordship over the west coast and brought with them their own take on Dre's G Funk. 187um even claims Dre stole their musical ideas to make The Chronic.
