But another singular and sadly overlooked achievement during this era was Above the Law’s sophomore album Black Mafia Life, released just a month and a half after Dre’s magnum opus.

Above the Law split with Dre just before he exploded into lordship over the west coast and brought with them their own take on Dre's G Funk. 187um even claims Dre stole their musical ideas to make The Chronic.
