RKO General Inc. (previously General Teleradio Inc. and RKO Teleradio Pictures Inc.) was an American broadcasting company that, from 1952 through 1991, served as the main holding company for the noncore businesses of the General Tire and Rubber Company and later on GenCorp.
The original RKO Pictures ceased production in 1957 and was effectively dissolved two years later. In 1978, broadcaster RKO General, the corporate heir, launched a production subsidiary, RKO Pictures Inc., which revived the theatrical brand with its first releases three years later.

O'Neil was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on April 18, 1915.. He graduated from College of the Holy Cross, where he was a star football player, in 1937. Beginning in 1941, he served five years in the Coast Guard.
