John Arthur Antrobus (born 2 July 1933) is an English playwright and screenwriter. He has written extensively for stage, screen, TV and radio, including the epic World War II play, Crete and Sergeant Pepper at the Royal Court.

Antrobus was the first artist to paint a portrait of Ulysses S. Grant in 1863. He worked in Washington D.C. and later, Iowa (1870), finally settling in Detroit in 1875. He contributed articles regularly to the Detroit Free Press and wrote poetry.

On July 9, 1861, Lieutenant Antrobus, serving in the Confederate Southern Squadron, announced a new project to illustrate scenes from his battlefield deployments for the Daily Picayune. Though he enlisted in the Southern cause, he apparently changed allegiances.
