Places I Know is a good-natured retrenchment into Michael Chapman-ish folk rock, which also finds time for a spellbinding piano ballad, “Time to Time,” that would have done Bill Fay proud. The Machine Gun Co. summarizes the breadth of Cooper’s 1960s and 1970s explorations in potent small-group format.

Michael Cooper (born 24 August 1942) is an English guitarist and singer-songwriter. Initially coming to attention as a country blues performer, his later work also straddles jazz , Polynesian , ambient , and various experimental and improvisational styles.
Jun 27, 2019 · Winstone adds vocals to parts of Places I Know, including Country Water, a delightful song that sounds like a pub rock number from the likes of Brinsley Schwartz. The jazz-influenced numbers haven’t aged too well, although Mike Gibbs’s arrangement of Goodbye Blues, Goodbye makes imaginative use of horns.
