Karl Jockum Jonas "Joakim" Bonnier (31 January 1930 – 11 June 1972) was a Swedish sportscar racing and Formula One driver who raced for various teams. He was the first Swede to both enter and win a Formula One Grand Prix.

Jun 11, 2020 · 48 years today Jo Bonnier was killed in a shocking accident during the Le Mans 24 hours. A distinguished and almost regal character was lost after a highly distinguished career in both Formula One and sports car racing. Many were close to the tall, bearded and imposing Swede.
Jo Bonnier may not have been the fastest F1 driver of his era, but he was certainly one of the richest and his bank balance helped the fledgling McLaren team with its crucial cash-flow during the late 1960s by providing a home for some of the team’s obsolete Grand Prix machines.
Jo Bonnier made his F1 debut at the 1956 Italian Grand Prix. From 1956 to 1971, he raced for BRM, Lotus, and Brabham. He died 11 June 1972.
