    Why is Olana a National Historic Landmark?

    • Church and his wife Isabel (1836–1899) named their estate after a fortress-treasure house in ancient Greater Persia (modern-day Armenia), which also overlooked a river valley. Olana is one of the few intact artists' home-, studio- and estate-complexes in the United States; it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965.

    Is Olana state historical house worth a visit?

    • We heard about the Olana State Historical House and decided to visit the site in early October. The site has a good view of the Hudson River; and IMO the most interesting part is the Frederic Church house done is a 'Moorish Style'. We arrived late in the morning mid week and had no problem getting tickets for early in the afternoon.
