The Burnt Land of the Sun, also known as the Lands of the Sun, Easterness, the Eastern Land, and the Eastlands, was an empty land east of Middle-earth where the sun rose at dawn. Nothing is known of its geography except that there was a curve-shaped mountain range called the Walls of the Sun that corresponds to the Pelóri, the Mountains of Aman.
The Númenóreans may have visited it on their sea journeys into the far east of Arda, in the middle of the Second Age, since in the Akallabêth of The Silmarilion it is mentioned that they saw even the Gates of Morning in the east.
It has been speculated that the Empty Lands mentioned to have been cast back at the end of the Akallabêth included this land and the Dark Land (Hyarmenor).
In the game Middle Earth Role Play by Iron Crown Enterprises, a Sindarin name for the land—Romenor (Easternesse)—is given, although it does not appear in any of Tolkien's writings. Using proper grammar in Sindarin, the name would be Romennor, as opposed to the Quenya Rómenórë.

An operetta film, it is based on the 1932 operetta of the same title by Alibert. It was later remade into a 1952 film In the Land of the Sun starring Tino Rossi.
