Aug 12, 2021 · At the height of her fame, on the back of the 1969 nickel boom Millie Phillips was branded as “the Nickel Queen” and lionised as the epitome of a “woman in a man’s world”.
Acting on a rumour, Meg Blake (Googie Withers) - the wily widowed owner of the local pub at Mirribilli in Western Australia - pegs out a mining claim in the middle of a piece of land on nearby Spinifex Hill that a large corporation named Benson Mining plans to claim to mine nickel.
The film revolves around a nickel mine scam, set in Western Australia. There are a number of squabbles between various participants, each eager to lay their hands on the cash, and a number of very amusing scenes and characters.
