Motivated by Nick's deteriorating health and a bargain the two of them strike, they embark on a journey. There are adventures in the spirit of the old road movies, an unplanned robbery, and even an acid trip involving a cop who pulls his gun and shoots some doughnuts dead.
A pair of San Francisco misfits - Terry, a lonely voyeur, who decides to end it all and Nick, a terminally ill heroin addict - form a bond of friendship. The two then embark on one final to-hell-with-it spree that includes nude bowling, bank robbing, acid dropping and hanging with erotic dancer...

This is a wonderful male bonding film, with valuable life lessons, that finds unbridled wildchild Nick (Hunt), who is terminally ill, scams Terry (Arquette) out of committing suicide. Nick lives out his final days with a reckless abandon, dragging the terminally square Terry along for the ride.
