Plot. In an unnamed city overcome with violent crime and corruption, disillusioned police detective William Somerset is one week from retirement. He is partnered with David Mills, a young, short-tempered, idealistic detective who recently relocated to the city with his wife, Tracy.
Two detectives, one about to leave and one entering find themselves following a series of murders, they find clues linking the deaths and the seven sins. The movie follows the cops, their family and tracking down the mass murderer who delivers an unforgettable ending.
- Gluttony (The Obese Man) Gluttony is an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires. Its punishment in hell is to be forced to eat rats, toads, and snakes.
- Greed (Eli Gould) Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. Its punishment in hell is to be boiled in the most luxurious, most expensive oil in the universe.
- Sloth (Victor) John leaves a clue in the Eli Gould crime scene, highlighting Gould’s wife’s eyes with blood on her photograph. After much thought and investigation, the detectives decide to question Mrs. Gould in the safe house she was kept in.
- Lust (The Prostitute) I know you’ve committed this sin! Its punishment in hell? You’ll be smothered in fire and brimstone. But what our victim experienced was worse than hell.
