“Eadie Was a Lady” is a riotous narrative ballad introduced by Ethel Merman in the 1932 Broadway show “Take a Chance.” Cab Calloway is one of the few artists to record this unique song. Playbill for “Take A Chance,” Ethel Merman, far right. The song relates the life story of a dead prostitute as remembered by some of her old girlfriends.
