Boylesque is a Polish-Czech documentary film, directed by Bogna Kowalczyk and released in 2022. The film is a portrait of Andrzej Szwan [ pl ] , an 82-year-old Polish man who performs in drag as Lulla La Polaca, and remains committed and driven as both an entertainer and an activist despite the uncertain state of LGBT rights in Poland .
An openly gay man in communist Poland, he organized underground parties and after-curfew salons of men inside private apartments. He enthusiastically took up drag, despite a fiercely homophobic culture, to free himself from the stifling correctness of the 80s.
