If one of the scientists misses a treatment, his skin hardens to the toughness of stone. A female prisoner discovers why so many of her fellow inmates are disappearing, and attempts to stop them with the aid of a prison psychiatrist.
They found that the ideal donor was a nubile young woman who would die once her life force was extracted and the transfer completed. The diary continues that Eric's experiment went awry, and hence he has exhausted most of his life energy, partially turning to stone.
