One Way Pendulum, described on the title page as "A Farce in a New Dimension", is a play by N. F. Simpson. It was first performed at the Theatre Royal, Brighton on 14 December 1959, before playing at London's Royal Court Theatre from 22 December, later transferring to the Criterion Theatre where it ran until 11 June 1960.
A father (Eric Sykes) who is obsessed with the Old Bailey and is building a replica in his front room, a son who nicks 'speak your weight' machines and adjusts their innards so they sing together like a choir ('fifteen stone, ten pounds!') and an attractive young daughter who thinks she looks like a monkey.
A study of absurdity in a suburban family: father recreates the Old Bailey in the living room while the son teaches speak-your-weight machines to sing in the attic.
Based on N.F. Simpson's stage play about members of a British family who behave in often-baffling ways.
