   • Sierra Maestra named themselves after the mountain range in the eastern part of Cuba as a tribute to the birth place of son. Sierra Maestra first performed in 1976 at the University of Havana, where all the group members studied. Their goal, then as now, was to recover this popular Cuban music style of the 1920 that had been all but forgotten.
