Between these two releases, Bolan first recruited bassist Steve Currie, and then drummer Bill Legend, to form a full band to record and tour to growing audiences.
Steve died in a car crash on 28 April 1981, when he was returning to his home near Vale de Parra, Algarve, Portugal. He was also a member of Ham and Petersham Rifle and Pistol Club until his death. The club has a competition Trophy dedicated to Steve which is still run every year.

May 11, 2016 · April 28, 1981 – Steve Currie was born on May 19th 1947 in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, England. He became best known as bass player of the English glam rock band T-Rex. Whilst working for the local Tax office, Currie played with local Grimsby group “The Rumble Band”.
