Naheed Kurban Nenshi (born February 2, 1972) is a Canadian politician who has been serving as the leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party since being elected to the post on June 22, 2024. He was the 36th mayor of Calgary, Alberta, serving from 2010 to 2021.
Prior to his election, Naheed served as Canada’s first tenured professor of nonprofit management at the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal University. He was also a management consultant for McKinsey & Company. Headquartered in Alberta, Naheed ran his own firm: Ascend Group.
Naheed Nenshi was elected mayor of Calgary for three terms, from 2010 to 2021. He was the first Muslim mayor of a major North American city. He was also the first Canadian mayor to be awarded the World Mayor Prize by the British-based City Mayors Foundation.
