Fallen Leaf Lake is a mountain lake located in El Dorado County, California, near the California – Nevada state border, about one mile south west of the much larger Lake Tahoe. It is approximately aligned north-to-south and oval in shape, measuring approximately 2.9 miles (4.6 km) on the long axis and 0.9 miles (1.4 km) on the short axis.
If you’re a water person, rent a paddleboat, kayak, or my preferred watercraft, a stand-up paddleboard and get out on the water! Often in the fall, the water stays calm and glassy through the morning, so I’ll take a lunchtime paddle break. You can reach the store at 530-544-5323 and the marina at 530-544-BOAT.
If you're at Lake Tahoe South, it is worth to visit this small lake - Fallen Leaf Lake and the Glen Alpine Falls. The waterfall is at Lake's South. There is a turn from the road 89 to the Lake. Drive along the whole lake from North to South (on the East side) and enjoy the views.

Fallen Leaf Campground. Fallen Leaf Campground is situated on the north shore of Fallen Leaf Lake and adjacent to Taylor Creek. The south shore of Lake Tahoe is less than a mile away. The campground features 206 sites that include six yurts and standard tent and RV sites. The campground is typically open from mid-May through mid-October.

Slept at Aloha first night, super hot and exposed but gorgeous and amazing for swimming. Hiked to Gilmore next morning (only 3 miles), dropped my stuff and summitted Tallac—you can see Lake Tahoe, emerald bay, cascade lake, fallen leaf lake, lake Aloha, Suzie lake, and lake Gilmore all at once—practically my whole hike from one viewpoint.
