- The Rosetta Stone (Room 4) The key that unlocked the hieroglyphic language of ancient Egypt, the Rosetta Stone is the Museum's most popular exhibit and one of the cornerstones of modern Egyptology.
- Parthenon sculptures (Room 18) Carved about 2,500 years ago, these ancient Greek sculptures adorned the Parthenon, a temple on the Athenian Acropolis that once contained a colossal gold and ivory statue of the goddess Athena.
- Assyrian lion hunt reliefs (Room 10) Originating from the ancient Mesopotamian city of Nineveh, near modern-day Mosul in Iraq, these reliefs were carved during the reign of Ashurbanipal – the last great Assyrian king – and rank among the finest known achievements of Assyrian art.

Late opening on Fridays are free to visit, just book a timed slot in advance to guarantee entry. The last timeslot is 19.00. Our current exhibitions will be open for evening visits. Please note there is a charge for special exhibitions.

Opening Hours:
The museum is open every day from 10 am to 5 pm. On Fridays, it stays open until 8.30 pm. A booked time slot will get you guaranteed entry. As mentioned before, it is the UK’s top attraction and has a massive amount of visitors. So, despite this neoclassical building’s vast size, booking a ticket removes the admission hassle.

It’s free to visit the British Museum, but there are also priced special exhibitions. Throughout the year, the museum presents fascinating special exhibitions, which they feel will be popular with visitors.
