Koma began his professional career in 2010. He started out his career in music in punk rock and later transitioned to many other genres ranging from pop, and hip hop to EDM. He was first noticed after an acoustic performance by record producer Jimmy Iovine who signed him to Interscope Records. In May 2012, Matthew Koma released his first extended play (EP) titled Parachute. The EP had collaborations with music artists Alex da Kid, Sam Watters, Louis Biancaniello, and Ari Levine.
