Contents. Sandi Russell. Sandi Russell (January 16, 1946 – June 23, 2017) was an American jazz singer and writer who later settled in England. Her book Render Me My Song: African-American Women Writers from Slavery to the Present was influential in efforts to bring women into the African American literary canon.

Mini Bio (1) Sandi Foxx was born in Manhattan. An only child, Foxx grew up in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx and attended an all-girls school. Following graduation from high school, Sandi went on to attend the City College of New York, where she was both a history and sociology major before eventually dropping out.
