For the first two years of the war, command at Aldershot was divided between the Major-General, Administration (Major-General Alexander Hamilton-Gordon) and the commander of Aldershot Training Centre (General Sir Archibald Hunter). Aldershot Command was reinstated in 1916 under Hunter.

The Infantry and Cavalry barracks to the west of the map were split and renamed Warburg, Willems, and Beaumont Barracks a few years before World War One.

The museum is housed across three buildings. The main part is held in the only surviving Victorian brick-built barrack blocks left in Aldershot, but you can also visit General Montgomery's actual barn, and the building once used as the Regimental HQ for the camp at nearby Church Crookham.
