While it has many qualities of noir (such as vile bad guys, killings and a lack of sentimentality), it lacks the usual language, style and cinematography you might associate with the genre. Because of this, although the film is pretty good, it lacks the style to make it great. The film begins with a robbery of a racetrack.

Track the Man Down, a 1955 British production, is one of those quality crime thrillers from the 1950s that are too often overlooked by younger viewers who don't know how to have fun. After a race track robbery results in the accidental death of a guard, the perpetrators go on the run as the ringleader's girlfriend is ensnared into the crime.
After robbing the cashier's booth at a London dog track, thieves Rick Lambert, Ken Orwell and Ahmed Jones take a guard hostage and flee. With the police in pursuit, Rick bashes the guard in the head, then throws him out of the fast-moving car. While speeding over a bridge, the car veers over the side, sending its occupants spilling out.
