Bishop Wilton is a small village located 4 miles north of Pocklington. Just North of the village lies Bishop Wilton Wold, known as Garrowby Hill, which is the highest point on the Yorkshire Wolds. The village is considered by some to be one of the prettiest villages in East Yorkshire.
Bishop Wilton has venerable ecclesiastical connections, as its name suggests. It was once home to the Archbishop of York’s palace, which the impressively active local history group believes to have been built in the time of Walter De Grey, who was archbishop from 1216-1255.
