   • The town of Marton is the largest in the Rangitikei district, and began life as a private township in 1866, when shop and housing sections were sold at auction by local landowners. The town had 5,590 residents as of June 2023. Marton has always been a service town for the fertile farming lands of the lower Rangitikei Rivers flood plains.

Track was suffering a bit from lack of maintenance (probably another victim of lockdowns) and was a bit boggy in places but a really nice easy opportunity to stretch the legs on the trip down the island.
