   You can check out the YorkU Software Engineering Course Calendar to see specific courses that you have to take so you can get a feel for what the major covers. I am not sure if picking Software Engineering over Computer Science will be worth it in the end.

   The biggest difference between Ryerson and York engineering is the programs offered. Each school offers programs that the other does not, and Ryerson honestly has a bit more breadth than York. In your case, both schools offer mechanical engineering, so this won't be an issue for you.

   Is York engineering a good school?

   • If anything, York is a better engineering school on the whole at this point. Ryerson's kinda stagnated and I never really hear about anything super cool at Ryerson Engineering, while Lassonde has been rapidly growing in stature for the last 10 years. I've personally been able to get a very good full-time position, as have many of my peers.

   How hard is York University's software engineering program?

   • My GPA is 5.25 which is about a C+ and I'm a 4th year software engineering student. The program is pretty hard, but engineering is hard at whatever school you choose. To put things into some perspective, about 120 new students were enrolled in York's engineering program in 2012. Of those students about 50 made it to second year.

   Should I get a job at York engineering?

   • If you can show them that you have relevant experience and are good at the interview, you'll probably get the job regardless of where you got that degree from (the grade part doesnt really apply to co-op) York engineering is ranked higher than Ryersons, but regardless employers don’t care where you get your degree from.
