  2. The Marin Headlands are a hilly peninsula at the southernmost end of Marin County, California, United States, located just north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge, which connects the two counties and peninsulas. The entire area is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

    • Instead Of Turning Around, Turn Right. The Golden Gate Bridge Vista Point is one of the most popular spots for visitors to San Francisco Bay. The standard itinerary is to drive across the bridge, get off at the overlook, take photos, and then take the loop road to the left and back onto the highway, heading south across the bridge.
    • Be Sure To Visit Fort Baker. Once you’ve turned on Bunker Road, you’ll have two options. Straight ahead is the Baker-Barry Tunnel and access to the western part of the Marin Headlands.

  5. Feb 2011. The Marin Headlands is one of my favorite places to go when I visit SF. It is right over the Golden Gate Bridge. As you take the drive, stop at the first overlook, park and walk thru the old army bunkers, and enjoy the spectacular views of the city.
