David Axelrod's production reeks of late 60s West Coast rock. This compilation covers work from his own albums as well as a few examples of his touch with other artists. Individual tracks range from the very good to the excellent, but as a whole the rather baroque arrangements and stale psychedelia can sometimes make it quite heavy going.

A heroin addict for ten years, until intro-1 duced to cocaine, as a psychonaut Axelrod was one step ahead of his rock | contemporaries. As such his music was amongst the first to replace the lin-1 ear shocks of the three minute pop song with the pure sensation of sound.
