Dongcheng (Chinese: 东城区; pinyin: Dōngchéng Qū; lit. 'East City District') is a district of the city of Beijing. It covers the eastern half of Beijing's urban core region, including all of the eastern half of the Old City inside of the 2nd Ring Road with the northernmost extent crossing into the area within the 3rd Ring Road.

Dongcheng District is the inner-east district of Beijing. Dongcheng is roughly the eastern half of the area within the Second Ring Road. The southern third of Dongcheng was the former district of Chongwen.
The district is served by the wider Beijing public transport network. Subway Line 2 runs around the north, east and southern edges of the district. Lines 1, 6 and 7 run east-west across the district. Line 5 runs north-south thru the whole district. Line 8 runs between Olympic Park and Nanlougouxiang Station, which is in the center of the district.
Tian'anmen Square
Tian'anmen Square(天安门广场; Tiān'ānmén Guǎngchǎng) is one of the largest squares in the world. Built for Mao to impress; the square is surrounded by Soviet-style monuments and government buildings.
