The Allies had suffered over 220,000 casualties, while the Ottomans had lost around 250,000 men.[^2] In January 1916, the decision was made to evacuate the remaining Allied troops, bringing an end to one of the most disastrous campaigns of the war.
The whole Gallipoli operation, however, cost 26,111 Australian casualties, including 8,141 deaths. Despite this, it has been said that Gallipoli had no influence on the course of the war.
