Aug 12, 2020 · Putting 100 octane fuel in an engine that is designed for 87 octane fuel accomplishes nothing at all. I had a coupe that had an engine that was engineered to burn 93 octane rated gas. If I used a lower octane gas the engine computer would retard the spark to avoid knock and so the engine produced less power and fuel economy decreased a little.
