Successful Combined Lab and X-Ray program graduates are eligible to challenge the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists entry-to-practice certification examination to become a certified technologist.
Through courses in anatomy, patient care, radiographic techniques and X-ray equipment train to properly position patients and record images of disease or injury as a medical radiologic technologist for hospitals, clinics, or public health agencies.
The Medical Radiologic Technology program teaches students how to perform X-rays, including evaluating the diagnostic quality of images, patient care and quality control. Students also gain expert knowledge in radiation safety and protection practices.
In this program, you’ll build the knowledge and skills needed to operate advanced imaging equipment as an entry-level medical radiologic technologist. You’ll learn to perform imaging procedures and support patients in various acute care settings, including operating rooms and intensive care units.
This job requires a 2-year diploma in combined lab and X-ray technology. A list of approved programs is posted on the Alberta College of Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technologists (ACCLXT) website. Some programs may require post-secondary courses in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
