The original Miami Marlins began play in 1956 as the Triple-A International League affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, and later the Class A Florida State League Miami Marlins played from 1962-70 and 1982-88.

Founded in 1991 as the Florida Marlins, the Marlins began play in 1993 in the suburb of Miami Gardens, and moved to the city in 2012, becoming the Miami Marlins at that time. The team has played their home games at LoanDepot Park (formerly Marlins Park) since that time.
