May 28, 2004 · “Raising Helen” is a perfectly pleasant comedy in which nice people do good things despite challenges which are difficult but not excessive. As a pilot for a TV sitcom it would probably be picked up, but it’s not compelling enough to involve a trip to the movies.
Raising Helen is a good family movie for kids 11 and up. I like the messages throughout about having to eventually grow up, take responsibility and realize that life is no game. Helen (Kate Hudson) is a carefree, happy-go-lucky party girl with not much to worry about.

Positive —This movie was quite refreshing. Helen changes for the better and has to change her life to be a better role model and mother for her “children.” It was a good example that you can never predict what God is going to throw your way or why, but it is how you deal with it that ultimately matters.
