    • Canvas. Well-recognized for its durability, canvas makes for an ideal material for aesthetically pleasing, enduring bags. Originating from woven hemp or linen with Latin roots, canvas was widely adopted during the Italian Renaissance for oil painting, thanks to its adaptability and resilience.
    • Leather. As one of the most premium materials in the fashion industry, leather adds a touch of luxe to any bag, embodying durability and style. Leather comes in diverse types, each offering a unique texture and aesthetic, making it highly sought-after for bag making.
    • Nylon. Nylon, a versatile synthetic fabric, boasts an array of varieties, each exhibiting unique characteristics that render it an essential material in bag making.
    • Polyester. Polyester, like its synthetic counterpart nylon, is an incredibly versatile fabric rooted in petroleum. Varieties such as Ripstop, Dobby, and Microfiber polyester continue to underline its adaptability in diverse applications.
    • Bag fabric. The material with which a bag is made can make or break the appearance of the bag. In fact, as you know, it is almost the whole bag. So choose wisely.

    • Sewing machine. Even though a sewing machine is not a material but an equipment, I have included it here because an appropriate sewing machine is essential for the success of making professional looking bags.
    • Webbing. Bag handles are usually made of the bag exterior fabric itself. But webbing made of nylon/cotton fibers makes it very convenient and easy to make handles.

  6. Dec 17, 2021 · I’m often asked what fabrics are suitable for bag making – so I thought I would make a quick video to illustrate.
