Casey County is a county located in the U.S. Commonwealth of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,941. [1] Its county seat is Liberty. [2] The county was formed in 1806 from the western part of Lincoln County [3] and named for Colonel William Casey, a pioneer settler who moved his family to Kentucky in 1779. [4]
CASEY COUNTY. The forty-sixth in order of formation, Casey County was created on November 14, 1806, from Lincoln County, and named in honor of Col. William Casey, a Revolutionary War veteran from Virginia who explored the area in 1779. The 435-square-mile county is bordered by Russell, Pulaski, Lincoln, Boyle, Marion, Taylor, and Adair counties.
Geography. Liberty is located in central Casey County in the valley of the Green River. U.S. Route 127 passes through the city, leading north 26 miles (42 km) to Danville and south 21 miles (34 km) to Russell Springs.
