The Šumadija and Western Serbia ( Serbian: Шумадија и западна Србија / Šumadija i zapadna Srbija) is one of the five statistical regions of Serbia. It is also a level-2 statistical region according to the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS). It was formed in 2010.
Šumadija ( Serbian Cyrillic: Шумадија, pronounced [ʃumǎdija]) is a geographical region in the central part of Serbia. The area used to be heavily covered with forests, hence the name (from šuma 'forest').
The Šumadija District ( Serbian: Шумадијски округ / Šumadijski okrug, pronounced [ʃumǎdijskiː ôkruːɡ]) is one of eight administrative districts of Šumadija and Western Serbia. It is located in the central parts of the country.
