Five Metro Vancouver neighbourhoods have made it to Canadian Business magazine’s latest rankings of Canada’s wealthiest neighbourhoods. The highest ranking non-Toronto area is Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Heights at fourth place, followed by a part of Kerrisdale at seventh place.
- Westmount, Quebec. Located just southwest of Downtown Montreal, Westmount is an affluent, predominantly English-speaking enclave on the Island of Montreal.
- North Vancouver, British Columbia. North Vancouver is often considered part of Vancouver but it’s actually an independent city. Its stunning location means it’s a hub for the film industry but shipping and chemical production are major employers here too.
- Beaconsfield, Quebec. Located on the Island of Montreal and on the shores of Lac Saint-Louis, Beaconsfield is technically a suburb of Montreal, one of Canada’s most beautiful cities to live in.
- Vaughan, Ontario. Vaughan is part of the Regional Municipality of York and lies just north of Toronto. It’s made up of five smaller communities and is ethnically and linguistically diverse.
In fact, in the 2006 census, Rosemary Heights was, somewhat surprisingly, revealed to be one of the richest neighbourhoods in Metro Vancouver in terms of median income. Residents’ median income was $44,301, more than double the figure for Metro Vancouver as a whole ($20,754).
