Boss Brass. Robert Murray Gordon McConnell OC (14 February 1935 – 1 May 2010) [1] was a Canadian jazz trombonist, composer, and arranger. [2] McConnell is best known for establishing and leading the big band The Boss Brass, which he directed from 1967 to 1999.

May 3, 2010 · Canadian jazz great Rob McConnell, a trombonist and band leader of the Boss Brass, has died. He was 75. McConnell passed away in a Toronto hospital Saturday after a long battle with cancer.
