Mar 13, 2022 · Historically, Wiesbaden was a famous Roman spa town. As a tribute to this, the current bathhouse was built on the foundation of an ancient Roman spa. To honor this history, Kaiser-Friedrich-Therme features rooms decorated with elaborate ornaments and columns (similar to that of Roman times). There are two main entrances to the Therme grounds.

Spas and Public Baths. Wiesbaden has a wide range of bathing landscapes. The name “mattiaqua” is a homage to the Romans, who named their settlement in modern-day Wiesbaden “Aque Mattiacae” after the Germanic Mattiaci tribe who lived there. The healing and soothing effects of the 26 hot springs were very much treasured by the Romans.
