Jun 30, 2016 · There are dozens of different crude oil streams produced in Western Canada, each with varying degrees of quality and grade. These streams vary from light sweet oil derived from both conventional and unconventional deposits, to heavy sour blends, produced primarily from the oil sands.
Western Canadian Select is Canada's benchmark heavy crude and has historically been the cheapest crude oil heavy sour blend in North America. [3] [1] There are only four corporations that produce it—Cenovus Energy, Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor Energy, and Repsol. [18]
