Mount Shasta (also known as Mount Shasta City) is a city in Siskiyou County, California, United States, at about 3,600 feet (1,100 m) above sea level on the flanks of Mount Shasta, a prominent northern California landmark. The city is less than 9 miles (14 km) southwest of the summit of its namesake volcano.

Shasta Sisson Museum is a self-supported, volunteer operated museum with a 501 (c) (3) tax status. To fulfill its mission, the museum has exhibits on the history and science related to Mt. Shasta and the surrounding areas. There are many hands-on activities for children and adults.

Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum is a self-supported, mostly volunteer-operated museum with a 501 (c) (3) status. Our mission is to assist in illuminating the past, present, and future of the Mount Shasta region.
It is an area of rugged peaks, emerald green meadows, rushing streams and gorgeous alpine lakes. The Sisson-Callahan National Recreation Trail visits the heart of this country. The entire length of the trail is blessed with stunning views of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Eddy, Castle Crags and the Trinity Alps.

The great outdoor adventurer John Muir—who had skipped over glaciers in Alaska, surfed an avalanche, and gleefully rode a wildly swaying tree in a storm in the Sierras—lay in a hotel bed strewn with wildflowers.
A half-mile west of the freeway, this former hatchery headquarters is full of curious mountaineering artifacts and old pictures. The changing exhibitions highlight history – geological and human – but also occasionally showcase local artists.
