Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park is a 932-acre (377-hectare) park located in the Sierra Pelona in northern Los Angeles County, California. It is known for its rock formations, the result of sedimentary layering and later seismic uplift.
The Vasquez Rocks are located in a 900-acre park in Northern Los Angeles known for its wildlife and its awe-inspiring monoliths. These unique rocks have shared many a big and small screen in some of our favorite movies (Blazing Saddles, anyone?).
This place is a must see for anyone visiting Los Angeles or driving between Los Angeles and the Bay area. It's a detour off of interstate 5, but it's well worth it if you have any interest in geology. If you're a movie buff, you'll also recognize the place from many a movie. Opening Times
The Park is open every day of the week, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The trails are beautiful to hike year-round, except for a few hot days during the summer months. A trail map is available at the Visitor Center which is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. I recommend stopping at the Visitor Center first and taking a map.
