Mar 31, 2018 · It changed its name to O.W. Dillon Memorial High school from 1955-1969. After Integration, it became Kentwood Elementary School. The Dormitory became the first National Register entry for Louisiana’s African American High Schools in 1979.
The History of O.W. Dillon Leadership Academy. Prior to 1910 there is no record of a name for the school for African-Americans in Kentwood. However, the head of the first school was Esaw Lawson. During this same year money was donated to construct Kentwood Industrial for African-Americans.
